Elopement in Nashville

As a local Nashville wedding officiant, I see that on any given day couples in Nashville are

having small intimate weddings to huge luxury affairs. Nashville is known as the Country Music

Capitol but it has so much more to offer. It is a progressive city with southern charm.

Eloping Then And Now

When most people hear the term eloping, it usually means when a couple runs away and secretly for whatever reasons to get married. Although the term may have had negative indications, today eloping is something that more couples are doing. They are usually couples who want a smaller more intimate setting. Some couples don’t want the stress of a big wedding, spending thousands and thousands of dollars on venues, food, dresses, flowers can be overwhelming.

While there is no set cost to elope in Nashville, most couples spend $500-$15,000, depending on the venue which is much less than the national average of $33,000 for a traditional wedding. Most couples cut out things that are unnecessary or that they don’t care about.

The guest list is usually no more than 10 people. Some elopements have no guest at all except for the officiant and photographer. The ceremony can take place anywhere, at a venue, your backyard, in the park, where ever you desire.

When Planning Your Elopement

If you decide that eloping is right for you, here are a few things you should know.

Nashville is not short on venues or places to get married; it really depends on your budget. Most venues have elopement packages which includes the venue rental, a wedding officiant and a photographer. Pick a date and time that works for you.

Once you have picked your spot you will need to obtain your marriage license from the Davidson County Clerk:

  1. Both parties must be present.

  2. Bring a valid driver’s license, government issued photo ID or passport.

  3. Complete the Marriage License application online prior to visiting the office.

  4. Proof of Social Security number by a social security card, W-2 or tax forms with your social security number on it. The fee is $99.50 cash. $101.49 card.

  5. To receive a $60 savings, you must submit a notarized premarital counseling Certificate of Completion. Living Ceremonies offers premarital counseling to couples and once completed we will help couples get form notarized. The marriage license is valid for 30 days from the date issued.

If you are not using a venue that has an officiant you will have to choose an officiant who can legally marry you according to county and state regulations. Living Ceremonies, a Nashville Wedding Officiant service, can help create a ceremony that includes things that are meaningful for you.

Other things to consider are photographers and videographers, music, decorations, reception and the weather. Depending on your location and the time of the year, have a plan in place for unfavorable weather conditions. Most of the weddings in Nashville are in the Spring and Fall, probably due to the hot and humid conditions of the Summer.

If you decide to elope to the exciting City of Nashville, Living Ceremonies, Nashville Wedding Officiant will help create a ceremony that is unique and personal, one that reflects your love, culture, values and desires. We will make your ceremony a memorable, meaningful and marvelous experience.
