Civil Ceremony VS Symbolic Ceremony

Taking care of the legalities for a destination wedding can be done in the Dominican Republic but there are a lot of important documents that need to be translated into Spanish, notarized and apostilled before the wedding can take place. A civil ceremony is performed by a judge or government official. There is an added expense when having a civil ceremony because of the paper work, translations and legal fees. The following documents are required and the couple should bring the originals:

  1. Original passport with photocopy of ID page

  2. Affidavits of marital status, certifying that the bride and groom are single

  3. Original birth certificates

  4. Divorce Certificate or Death Certificate, if applicable

  5. Two or more witnesses with valid passports, other than family members

A symbolic ceremony is exactly what is sounds like. About 80% of destinations wedding are symbolic. It can be performed by anyone and doesn’t require as much paperwork. Most couples marry before they leave home by a wedding officiant who will take care of filing their license. Living Ceremonies is a Nashville officiant service, that will work with you to personalize your wedding before you go BUT we also do destination weddings.

Bring Your Wedding Officiant

Having a professional wedding officiant that you know and trust can be a valuable asset for your destination wedding. Advantages of bringing your familiar officiant with you:

Personal Connection and Comfort: Having an officiant that you have established and built a personal connection with can provide comfort during what can be a stressful experience and can alleviate nerves and ensure a sense of ease on your big day.

Personalized Ceremony with Familiarity: As your officiant we already understand you and your partners personalities, beliefs and what makes your relationship special. We will personalize your ceremony to authentically reflect your love story and incorporate specific details that wouldn’t be possible with someone who doesn’t know you. This personal connection will lead to a more heartfelt and meaningful ceremony.

Consistent Communication: Throughout our meetings and planning process, we’ve built an open and comfortable communication style which allows us to be open regarding any last-minute changes or adjustments.

Customization and Flexibility: Bringing Living Ceremonies allows for greater customization and flexibility. We can discuss any specific ceremony details, beforehand, ensuring everything aligns with your vision and preferences without needing to explain everything in detail to a new officiant.

Bringing an officiant to your destination wedding will incur an additional cost of traveling but the emotional gratification of having someone who knows you and your partner there telling your love story, surrounded by your family and friends on the beach with a breath-taking view of the Caribbean Sea is…priceless.
